In my case I don't believe there is any upside to paying more for the GPS models. I suppose a situation could arise that I'm going at or below the limit and the footage looks as though I'm going faster than the limit. I don't really know how well the sensation of speed shows up on a dash cam? Just thinking out loud!

Just buy one without GPS, problem solved. As much driving as you do, you would be dumb not to get one for $50.

Even without GPS your speed could be calculated from the video pretty easily by timing the passing of know distances.

There's been a discussion of dash cams on the Survivalblog site (James Wesley Rawles' site), and he recommends the Z-Edge Z3 Full HD cameras. He uses two, one front-facing, one driver/driver-window facing.

    Z3: http://www.amazon.com/Wirecutters-Z-.../dp/B018YRBQSK

    Cheaper Z-Edge: http://www.amazon.com/ZeroEdge-G-Sen.../dp/B010GYYSU2

My thought is you want both: front-facing and driver side coverage...

I get front/back. Why drivers side? Wouldnt any argument for that also say why not passenger window and every other angle?

Better to make some one work for that info, then hand it to them.

I think some are saying that any 'contact' would usually be at the driver side... many of the folks that discuss with JWR are looking for coverage of their actions when driving/stopped, thus the driver side.

I ordered the second one suggested and it arrived today. I'll let everyone know how we like it. The Z3 one is also one of the top rated ones.

Sounds like we have similar days. I'm going to get one for my new work vehicle when I get one.
