    Default CCW training question

    Hi all, the wife and I will be taking a hunter sefety course in a few weeks, and I was wondering if that is sufficient training for a CCW? Or if I need to take a particular class deingnated for CCW.

    Thanks

    Depends on the sheriff in your county, Weld and Larimer will accept it, I doubt Denver will.

    Thanks newracer, is it something I should ask the teacher or the sheriff?

    I may be mistaken but I think you have to take an NRA pistol safety course - at least I did for Denver.

    Thanks ranger, kind of what I figured but figured I would throw it out there anyway to see.

    I am hoping to get the class in in the next month or so.

    Thanks for the help folks

    Too much misinformation going around here. You can read the statute at

    http://cbi.state.co.us/ccw/Statutes/18-12-202.asp

    The class does not have to be NRA certified, nor does the teacher. There are other options. You can take a home study class from one of the Denver area businesses and once you pass their test they will issue a certificate. See the requirements below.

    (2) "Certified instructor" means an instructor for a firearms safety course who is certified as a firearms instructor by:
    (a) A county, municipal, state, or federal law enforcement agency;
    (b) The peace officer standards and training board created in section 24-31-302, C.R.S.;
    (c) A federal military agency; or
    (d) A national nonprofit organization that certifies firearms instructors, operates national firearms competitions, and provides training, including courses in personal protection, in small arms safety, use, and marksmanship.
