They were all still there about 30-40 minutes later when I drove by again as well.

    Default Uh oh....

I'm grilling elk steaks and corn on the cob and this little fellow showed up a few minutes ago. I told him to go away and not come back.

(Yes, I took in the feeder.)

Another moose went through today but I didn't see it. Also, a fox this morning.

    Yes, he's a beauty. Or, she's a beauty.

A different one than the brown one we saw a couple weeks ago.

I enjoyed seeing the bears around our home in Bailey. Usually a nightly occurrence during the summer months.

    Default No doughnuts for you!

A black bear was so determined to break into a doughnut delivery vehicle, it ripped off the car's back bumper.

Ha! That's some serious wood pecking! Not from Colorado I would guess. There's only one record of Pileated Woodpecker in the state, from the Aspen area around 1938, and that record is suspect. ;>)

Saw a couple more bull snakes by the garden today. This guy was most likely a little over 4' long. He got a little pissed when he tried crawling into his hole and I pulled him out. He went into full-on rattlesnake-mimic mode...hissing, shaking his tail in the grass and flattening his head. I thought he looked like he was ready to bite my dumbass so I left him alone:

Checking the owl boxes on the farm over the weekend, I discovered four nestling Western Screech-owls in a box in an elm. Six weeks ago I checked the box and evicted a nest of 6 Starling eggs. In their place grew the four small owls. Good trade as far as I'm concerned.

This box is about 30 yards from another box that had four young screech-owls last year at this date. Unfortunately, last year the young owls didn't stick around in the yard as they might normally would. We think this is because there was a magpie nest about 15 feet away, and the young owls and magpies fledged about the same time. There must have been a big to-do, as one of the baby magpies was killed and the adult owls took their young elsewhere.
