It looks like I'll have to keep the electric fence energized. I thought the bears would den up with the very cold temps but not so with this bear. Yogi visited twice in the morning, first at 12:11 am. I went to bed about that time, then noticed a light was on. It was the motion detector light over the dining room window. There he was licking up a little bird seed I'd put out for the bunny. I shooed him off with the shotgun, but he returned before 4 a.m.

When the snow builds up to touch the electric fence wire it interferes with the conduction so Mrs. Hummer disconnected it last week. I'll have to shovel snow or disconnect the lowest wire.

Funny, I still have a valid bear license but not for this area.

On Friday night a bull moose crossed the river and walked through the yard and messed up the fence wire. He might get a little shock next time.

Yea, he'd look better stuffed and on a platform in my living room. He is really impressive when you look out the dining room window and see him a mere 6 feet away. Mrs. Hummer saw him too and said, "that's a big bear!"

How many more bear seasons are there? Maybe I can come help you out.

I appreciate the offer. The bear tag is concurrent with the three deer/elk rifle seasons so even though my elk license was for 2nd season, I can also hunt bear during both first and third season. But my bear tag is specific to GMU 12, 23, 24, 25,26,33, 131 & 231. Too far away and too late in season for bear to be worth the time and expense to hunt 3rd season. Plus, I've been away from home several weeks to prep and go hunting.

If I took the time it might be worthwhile to concentrate on hunting only bear in the 1st season, or draw for an early season bear tag. Unfortunately, I couldn't draw a bear tag for the area where I live.

I was up at Heil Valley Ranch above Boulder hiking for the weekend and saw my first live wild turkeys. They were big! Made me hungry.
