Default Reminder for those of us that ride

Stay aware of at all times out there on the road. I just got home from a ride and the Parker P.D. has Hess closed west bound from Jordan due to a motorcycle/car accident. I don't know what happened or who was at fault, but there was a Harley laying down on the median of Hess west bound and a smaller car stopped on Jordan with it's rear bumper ripped off. Didn't see the rider of the motorcycle. Appears the car turned in front of the bike, but since I wasn't there I don't know who was in the right. Either way, car trumps bike when they collide - doesn't matter who's right and wrong.

    Hope the rider is okay.

I don't want to start a helmet debate, but my wife and I were out for a ride this weekend and I took a fist-sized rock to the chin bar of my helmet right before the first tunnel on 6 just west of Golden. If I didn't have a full face helmet, my wife & I would not be in good shape right now.

    Be safe out there.

That sucks, but that's the risk you accept every time you pull out of the driveway on one of those two wheeled death traps.

The wife and I are out enjoy a ride right now. Just finished lunch and a couple of beers.

    Hopefully we'll arrive home safely.

Thoughts and prayers to the rider and his family.

    Good PSA!

Everytime I see a HD I look for temp tags. But my prejudice was challenged when I saw a guy dump a new Ducati about six years ago right by my house. Single vehicle accident. At least he got up and seemed to be okay.

Always a good reminder of the risks we take when we head out on our scoots. As pointed out, doesn't matter who was right or wrong, the rider will always turn out in worse shape.

I won't get into a debate about helmets, I'll just say I'm alive due to me wearing one during a crash in August of '09. Almost 48 years of riding experience and I choose to wear one. To each their own, just look out for the other guy and ride safe.

Good reminder for those of us that ride to see...

I never ride without a helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots. I've been around a few times when people have gone down with just a helmet, and the damage to the hands, elbows, feet, and sometimes the back is just not worth the risk. One guy I know still can't walk right because he was riding in tennis shoes and went down 2 years ago.

The group that I ride with has some pretty reasonable rules that everyone agrees to when we leave.
    1. Minimum gear: Helmet, Leather or armored textile jacket, appropriate gloves, and some form of over the ankle (well attached - lace up) boots.
    2. Ride your own ride... We stress this frequently. We'll wait at turns for the whole group, but never try to keep up. It usually ends poorly.
    3. No alcohol. I know some get away with it, but on our group rides, no one drinks. There is too much happening too fast to purposefully inhibit oneself.
    4. Don't Crash.

I've been down once, doing 15MPH and having armored elbows in my textile jacket saved me from a world of hurt.
Living the fall of an empire sucks!

Saw this on 9news - this is the accident I was talking about. Sounds like the rider survived, but is in the hospital with serious injuries (according to the video).

AMEN! Hope the rider of the Harley is good to go. People always in a damn hurry in this city. They would rather cut off 4 lanes of traffic to make their exit than just take their time and get the next one. When I had my bike I always drove in regard for the cars around me because I know they weren't looking out for me. Be careful and keep the rubber side down.
