I have one new laptop with Windows 10 Pro on it, preinstalled. It has random odd behavior like the Start button not working with a left click but a right click will produce a limited drop-down menu. Testing out the wireless monitor option, sometimes it works (i.e., spawns the wireless monitor connect process), sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, it will never work again until I reboot the machine. Not just log out, reboot. Otherwise, it seems half-baked like so many other Microsoft products, better than Office 365 but that's not saying much.

My wife works from home and she had her printer go tits up last week. Bought a new printer this weekend, hooked it up this morning, and the only way to get it to work was to upgrade to Win 10, so I'm a little anxious to see what lays ahead.
I hate change, what was wrong with windows 7. Oh yeah, NOTHING....................

I always tell people Ubuntu is the best solution for Microsoft problems; the LTS releases are pretty easy to use, and a lot of the windows applications run just fine in wine. I keep a Win VM on my boxes if needed; I just blow them away and bring up another if needed. But, yep, Ubuntu or Kali if you are so inclined.

After closing the window asking us to upgrade to Windows 10, multiple times a day for the last several months, all the sudden the computer upgraded itself. So far no issues, I guess.

VM, dual boot, just about anything to keep M$ from being my OS provider of choice. I have never regretted the money I didn't spend on numerous distributions of Linux over the years.

It should have been named Microsoft X

Agree with the thread. Mom and Pops got upgrades without asking. Wife's computer did too. Mom has been bitching at me for a couple days now. She can't find this or that and today can't find the print button in Edge. (IE)

What a pain in the ass. Microsoft keeps me employed I guess. Let them keep fucking shit up. Oracle and Java are next in line. OMG! someone pick a version that works and leave it alone.!$#!@@#

Sometimes assholes push people down stairs.
That doesn't mean "stairs are bad" nor does it make someone who pushes someone down the stairs any less of an asshole.

My work computer forced the updates. I know for a fact it was not set for automatic updates.

Our work computers were force updated overnight and when we came in we ran into a mess. Six page forms printed out on the register receipt printer, other printers slowed down to where they were almost unusable. Files being sent to random folders. All sorts of fun. Our IT guy has been trying to get everything fixed and we have a software company that runs our server and of course some of our major programs. They have been pulling out there hair trying to fix all the problems the update caused.

I hate messing with computers so on my personal laptop I've avoided the update. My main concern is mostly the supposed tracking that Windows 10 does.

Leave Java alone? Not when you have to patch or upgrade every 2 weeks due to some zero day exploit.

If you manually download and install each major release into it's own directory, you can manage many versions of java installed side by side. I have to do this on my work laptop for the myriad of manufacturer's appliances I setup/manage.

There are some that use downloadable java applets that refuse to work with any current browser due to security restrictions in the browser, and one in particular that requires the applet to get through the initial setup via ethernet (if serial console isn't available) - (P.S. FU very much Brocade), but there are ways to launch the applets without a browser.
