Went hunting pigs this spring and we were doing a long walk/spot and stalk across a big Texas field. Everyone else had AR10 variants, except for my 6.8 AR. By the end of the walk, everyone else was like "holy shit, these things are heavy (they were all over 10lbs, like most) and my little 6.8 I was looking like a genius.
so, decided to build me a .308 AR but get it as lightweight as possible.
7lbs 8oz (without optics) is the results. I'm pretty damn pleased.
the specs:
2A arms lower and upper set. (they build some amazingly lightweight lowers and uppers for all sizes)
18" chrome moly McGowan fluted barrel
AAC flash hider
Magpul CTR stock
Gisselle SSA trigger
Midwest Ind hand guard (whenever 2A comes out with a m-lok front we'll replace it with that.)
MOE plus grip
JP Enterprises lo mass enhanced bolt and carrier (it is really light, way lighter than the wife's AR)
JP tuned buffer spring (to run the low mass bolt)
Test run soon, I'm very pleased, it's much more handleable than you would expect.
