Default Interesting Auction, Paul Rathbun, Wounded Knee Guns

I saw this in the paper today. There is an auction of American Indian Artifacts next weekend from Heritage Auctions. One of the consignors has over 100 items collected by his family when they ran a general store in the Pine Ridge Reservation area. The group includes several guns picked up by his family at Wounded Knee. I can imagine there was quite a bit of trading going on in the early 1900's and some of the items are one of a kind.

Anyway, some Tribal leaders are questioning the legality of the sale and it's possible violation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation act of 1990. Not sure what to think about all of that. Either way, there are some nice historical items in the auction.

    Here's a link with a little history http://www.ha.com/information/rathbu...y-collection.s

Sell them and donate the money back to the rez. The people not the tribal council.

A little off topic but my neighbor has an old Native American pot that looks like it should hold water or something and she has no use for it so she was wanting to take it somewhere to get it appraised so if anyone knows where she can take it that would be awesome. I plan on going with her as she is old and I don't want her to get screwed over. The thing looks crazy old and only has one small chip out of the top edge.

You might check with the Denver Art Museum or Colorado Historical Society. I'm guessing some of their curators would be happy to identify and maybe appraise it.
