    Default Gun price question

So how come you can buy a new in the box Colt 6920 complete w/buis for under $900 but every time I ask about a quality ar pistol with a 10.5" barrel and arm brace I keep getting told it'll run around $1100? Oh and that's without any kind of sight. Just something I was thinking about.

IMO, the 6920 is one of the best AR deals going right now.

You can get a DIY PSA pistol kit for like $4-500. I don't think that includes the brace though, just the pistol tube.

Define 'quality?' My personal 7.5" build has close to $1500 into, probably more. The beauty of AR's, you can spend as little or as much as you would like.

Personally, I dont get the love for the 6920. Sure, it's got all the correct m4 feed ramps and those kinds of details. But these days so do most of the cheaper ones. Meanwhile that barrel/fixed sight post combo makes it a bit of work and expense to get a nice flat top. Comes with the shit stock/grip you gotta replace.

Arguably their 6920-OEM2 isn't such a bad deal, drops some price, low profile gas block. Just add handguards/grip/stock gtg.

Because some guys like me that started using AR-15s (or M-16) for work back in the 80s still prefer the original. Aside from an optic (which works perfectly fine for me on the 6920 upper) I don't like all that crap. I've tried all the handguards, foreward grips, stocks, sights, fancy slings, etc, over the years and I still prefer a simple, lightweight barreled Colt AR6520 Gov't Carbine (I'll even take A1 sights) over anything with the 6920 being a pretty close second choice now that my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I may put a MagPul grip on it but that's it. Simple GI sling, too.

That's the beauty of having a diverse market. You can put all that stuff on your gun. I can buy what I want and use it off the shelf.

And limits you to carbine length gas with a 16" barrel.

It's established and milspec thus a standard. I bought mine in 2008 when there was a mixed bag of quality/specs out there. All I needed was a KAC RIS and ACOG to have an M4 clone (with a longer barrel).

These days I wouldn't hesitate to buy other brands/configurations. My favorite AR is my midlength DD upper on a PSA lower that I built. That is my longer range-ish AR. I have moved the ACOG over to that setup and the 6920 now sports a Aimpoint PRO which is my 0-300M AR. And if I want to shoot irons/rifle I have an A2 setup so I don't feel cheated having these carbines.

Don't get me wrong, I still like the A4 with the big paddle stock. I don't advocate against fixed front site posts and stubby handguards to load it down with toys. I like having optic only, no irons or at most some flip ups. Maybe an AFG, but otherwise just like long handguard to keep hot barrel covered and let you at times have that way out there grip.

I think some of my biggest gripe is just kinda the value, near a grand for something that isn't a unique snowflake anymore. (IE Back in early 2000's when there where not 500 AR15 companies and so you only had a few really shitty, few mid end, and a couple that made their name as best at the time.)

I had a Gov't Carbine with a fixed A1-length stock at some point. I really liked that. I actually have one of those stocks in my parts drawer. May have to whip it out.

A little supply/demand physics at work, Colt seeing less demand and AR pistols w/brace is still popular/hot/cool therefore over priced and your $1100 is high.

I would think a guy could trade the new Colt for a quality AR pistol with your specs.
