Default Haircuts: Let's Lighten Things Up

I'm not a slave to fashion or the trendiest hairstyles. I've worn the same GI-style haircut I had when my hair grew out long enough to cut after basic training in 1979. Think Martin Milner from Adam-12...the hairstyle.

I hate breaking in new barbers or going to a haircut place like Cost Cutters. "How are we styling your hair today?" We're not styling it. We're cutting it. Short. I seriously don't care, just cut it short. Then, there's the cost. $15 or $20 every 6 weeks adds up over time.

So, yesterday, I took delivery of a Flowbee. That's right. I admit it. Right here on the internet. I bought a Flowbee and it arrived yesterday. Go ahead, laugh, get it outta your system. I'll wait.

Not that the embarrassing part is over and the laughter's subsided lemme say this. It works.

I tried to get Mrs BG to let me give her a little styling touch-up to her coiffure. Surprisingly, she said no. So, I read the instructions (new territory for me...there's some good information in "instructions"), fired up the shop vac and the Flowbee and went to town. And, surprisingly, it worked. Quite well as a matter of fact. Seriously. It gave me a haircut equal in quality to many I've received in shops before. It won't go quite as short as I like it on the sides but it's close enough since I can trim it at will. It gave me a good blended look from the transition areas from shorter to longer hair. It cuts very evenly and easily. It takes a little help to get the back trimmed around the edge and along the neck, but other than that, I'm very pleased. It has several length guides, the hose adapter to attach to a vacuum, the cutter head (the Flowbee), an AC adapter and two oil bottles for the cutter blades. There's no mess. The vacuum sucks the hair right up. I didn't itch afterwards from hair going down my shirt.

All in all, despite the inevitable incoming ridicule, the Flowbee purchase was a good one. If you can stand the teasing, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

I'm jealous. My wife won't let me get one. Of course she also won't let me shave my head (which is what I'd rather do).

I don't even axe my wife for permission any more to do stupid shit. We both know she'll say "no" so I save us both the trouble of the initial argument.

    Hope it doesn't do this

Prefect timing. This weekend, I sat my daughter (8) in front of a YouTube video showing how to do a men's style cut and walked away. When she was done (she even took notes), she came and cut my hair on the front porch. I just sat there for 30 minutes and let her do her thing without giving her any direction. It was a pretty fun father/daughter exercise. I did go and have the hair cut place clean me up afterward. Ideally I'll have her cut my hair every time until I no longer have to go get it cleaned up.

Yeah...a daughter might be slightly better than a Flowbee.

Especially when she manages 5 of the chain stores around metro area. I get freebies so I don't have to get razzed about Flowbee.
