I used to find these damn things all over the walls of my old apartment in Junction. They were everywhere. We would shoot them with BB guns (all of my neighbors would participate). Good times. I remember one chasing (or at least looking like it did) one of my neighbors that went to take a look at one when it fell off the wall. The bodies of some of them were easily and inch long. These have a special place in hell designated for them when they die. I liked to think I was helping them get back home.

These and other creepy crawlies are why I have 2 cats... I haven't seen a spider in years in my house, or any other crawling bugs.

I've always known those guys as Wind Scorpions. I was taught a long time ago they are beneficial to have around. As others have stated they are harmless to humans and usually hide when approached. Plus, they eat a lot of other less beneficial critters.

While they are not uncommon out west I'll always associate them with the summer I spent at Twenty-nine Palms. It was hilarious watching guys scream like girls and scramble for whatever elevation they could get when someone shook one of those out of a boot.

Last summer, I put on my pair of old running shoes from out in the garage and the feeling of something down in the toe-area was unsettling. I ripped that shoe off and pounded it upside down on the driveway and lo-and-behold, one of these suckers about 1.25" long fell out and ran away. Now I always shake my shoes out before putting them on.

I thought I was the only one that watched that show.

I know! God, I love that show. We re-watch it every year or so.

Nope, there's at least two more.

If you're on FB, there are a number of groups devoted to the show. Lots of fans.

I've always called them sun spiders. Their 4-way fangs freak me out. Damn things are like tiny little predators.
