Default think I got out of a ticket for having a pistol

I got pulled over this weekend, in Utah, going 55 in a 35. I had a full sized pistol in the glove box at the time. When the officer asked me for my info I nicely warned him that there was a pistol and that he'd surely see it. After running the reg and my license he came back and said "thanks for telling me about the gun, watch your speed". I'm pretty sure he let me go without a ticket just because I correctly told him that he'd be seeing a pistol.

It sounds like the stop ended well for everyone involved. Drive safely.

Not sure I'd keep a pistol in the same place as my documents, but I suppose it worked out for you...this time.

I had previously thought of this but it didn't really fit any place else. I'll be looking harder for a better spot next time.

Perhaps due to your interaction with him. he figured a warning would be enough

Keep it on the seat, it is legal to do so. OR door pocket. What good is s firearm if you have to reach across the seats & console , open the box then utilize?

I keep all my firearms pointed out the windows (with my windows rolled down) while I drive since it is highly unlikely that I would need to utilize one of them with the windows rolled up or while aiming at something inside the vehicle.

I laugh to myself every time I listen to others speak about good cop/bad cop as it relates to getting a ticket or being given a warning. SMH

I keep mine in a cheap Galco kydex paddle holster I modified a little and mounted to the plastic dash panel underneath my steering wheel. It's very accessible but out of the way, and easily visible if I point it out. I make it a point to not get pulled over though.

I hear ya. You're either getting a ticket, or you're not.

41 in a 30. Cop gets all info, he tells me. I'd let you go. BUT............. the people in this area requested a strict traffic enforcement presence. SO.. I have to write you OR (Trust me) these people will call the dept on me. Sure write away. Knocks it down to 32 in a 30

Another one says I cannot believe you admitted to XX over the limit. You caught me, why lie and insult your intelligence.
OH BTW. My ID is (unfortunately) in that compartment where my pistol is.
You always keep a gun accessible. Sure, it's a motorcycle. Where else should it be. Without some concerned citizen calling in IF they see it on my hip.

Good choice. Slow down and stay away from this area today.
