Contruction has stirred up the rattlesnakes...yay Parker

I live over in the Cottonwood area of Parker and walk the Cherry Creek Trails around there daily. Today I saw 8 different small snakes all crossing the trail in a very distinctive sidewinder pattern.

They were at best 6 or 7 inches long and no bigger than the diameter of a pencil, but I have been walking these trails for the past 3 years and never seen a single snake. In the past month I have seen about a dozen, but today was the first time I had seen anything that I even remotely thought was venomous.

Had a black arrow shaped (viper) head, and was doing the sidewinder slide...they were moving very fast just not covering much ground. The thing of it is there are 3 parks near there, 2 with sand pits, that I routinely take my children to play. We also walk those trails quite a bit as a family. I am going to have to keep an even closer eye on things, sure as hell do not want the boy snagging a rattlesnake.

I made a call into Parker animal control, not that they can do shit about it, other than be aware. I suspect all of the construction of the new homes and all of the shit going in by Costco has stirred up the snakes.

Just a heads up for everyone that has kids/dogs in the northern side of Parker

We were in the Hills at Cottonwood for a few years, my wife was there since 2001. She used to do the bike path loop over by American Furniture that leads under 470 and back on Chambers. She said she used to always see them (rattlers) sunning on rocks by that bridge under 470. It also seems to be a mostly dry creek that is fed year round by a spring. I think it's more about the water/shade aspect. I walked my dogs almost everyday for the last few years along that horse pasture that is now exploding with houses and never saw a single serpent.

Our new place in Franktown, we've had 2 large bull snakes show up by the pool a few times and just yesterday while I was out, the wife saw a garner snake in the Koi pond. Again, I think it's the water.

Remember, about 3-4 years ago there was a black bear along Cherry Creek trail and a month ago there was a mountain lion in the parking lot of Hobby Lobby.

I was more surprised and concerned by the volume of young snakes. They didn't seem particularly aggressive, they left me alone, but was very surprising considering how few venomous snakes I have seen near residential areas in the past 6 years that I have been here.

Construction in aurora is causing a neighborhood to be overrun by rats.. perhaps you should just relocate the snakes?

Make sure you check for proper internal temp, they can carry parasites.
