I can’t imagine how bad Nederland would be these days. Having lived in metro Denver since the mid 60’s, Nederland was where all the hard core hippies lived because in there mind Boulder was too conservative and full of right wingers. I imagine you would have to be Full Tilt Bozo to live there now. I’m not even tempted to drive through there for fear that I would catch something.

Was with my parents at a local eating establishment a few weeks ago having lunch. Next to us was a dirty hippy with all kinds of piercings in her face. Looks like she fell face first into a tackle box. Also had several tattoos on her neck and a few on her face. Of course she had a small child with her dressed in filthy clothing and dirty as hell. As I walked by i pointed at her face and asked " How are those job interviews going for ya? Not to well I'm assuming". She gave me a stunned look, the kid kinda smiled, the guy at another table crapped his pants in shock and had a grin from ear to ear, and my parents wondered what the hell got into me to say that. It was EPIC. Pretty much fed up with them. I am really hoping that Kalifornia passes the recreational MJ bill so some of these crapstains move out of here for a better climate. Probably wishful thinking, but there is some merit to it. Our winters suck for these pavement wanderers. California would be much better suited for them.

    About Ned IMHO:

There used to be a bunch of really cool places to eat, drink, hang out and BS in Nederland. The Tungsten Grill was awesome. A few good bars to hang out in. WTF was that Italian joint called? (Tom...help me out) It was the best damn Italian food I had west of New York City - I can't believe I can't remember the name. The owner said that he was "just tired and wanted to retire" when I asked him "why?" when we went there the last day he was open. He was from "The City", of course, or he couldn't have had the skills. Can't blame him for retiring, but man I miss his cheese garlic knots. One calzone was at least two meals.

There's this new pizza joint (sorry Tom) that we went to once. My stepson wanted to go there before winter break last fall. Cool. We get there and the Host tells us "Sorry, we ran out of regular pizza dough, so we only have the gluten free dough". AYFKM? A Pizza joint? <sigh> Well, the kid wanted this place for his special dinner so in we went.

Tiny "Totinos" sized pizzas were about $10 each and they only had special Italian soft drinks. No Coke or Pepsi. And gluten free pizza is like alcohol free beer - WTF is the point? $50 later we all had a few slices of shitty, cardboard-like pizza and pop. Woohoo! We won't be back, but I see they get a lot a biz. Location is my only guess. At the old Italian joint we would have eaten like kings and walked out fat and happy with 2 days of leftovers, as usual.

Anyway, it really makes me sad to bash on Ned so much. It really has been a great place to hang out, drink, eat some good meals and have fun over the years. The hippie culture undertone just added to the vibe of the town back then. But the last few years have brought an huge influx of "undesirables". Too bad.

I consider myself a non-judgemental person. I have friends from all walks.

The shiat going on up here is ridiculous. Every Millennial/Trustifarian has left the parents basement and dropped here. The Cold Spring fire and hash oil house explosion made the news, three other fires caused by transient shit stains have not. I can point to five private properties where squatters are living and trashing the area. I drove through West Mag. today. It's sad to see the trashed campsites.

The FS cries poor mouth but take a look at their vehicle pool yard. A couple of brand new and non used toys could fund several FS employees quite nicely.

The Sheriff's dept says call if you see something but there is no Sheriff patrolling up here at night.

    Pass the buck.

The very day that Cold Spring flared I saw fire trucks scream up our hill. I asked the good volunteer firemen what was up.....transients had a bon fire going on Thorodin Mountain.

Neo's was the Italian joint. I loved their garlic bread. To know Jeff is to love Jeff. Just don't work for Jeff. Jeff is good people!

    HAH!!

Thanks for making a point I will share.

    My rant:
"Those shiats put two long time businesses out of business. Over a year of renovating a 120 year old building, so they could sell overpriced pizza. The main partners pulled out after 4 fawking months. "

Ya should have gone to Back Country, at least for carry out.

Taking a look a Ned dining, only a couple of places are still original. The Black Forrest is in only because they were from Central City before the time of dirt. Like authentic German food? This is the place.

The Pioneer Inn is the last bastion of Ned food/bar and it is being threatened by the town to be closed down. Not the best food ever but it is the last authentic Ned experience.

The RM Oyster Bar...Really? ????? The Smoke House is ok but not worth the price.

Katmandu and Ubon Thai are both worth the price of admission.

The B&F still has the best burger in town. Just don't look at the cook.

All said, the Sun Dance still rocks!

I listened to Boulder Dispatch, on the radio, during that incident . Stupid people in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Hell yeah. My wife went there without me the other morning and texted me a pic of the huevos rancheros.
