Default Having problems with .avi files (trying to combine several short videos)

have some .avi files from game cameras. some will play fine in windows media player, and some will play fine in quick time. for some strange reason they will not play in both. are there any minor differences in the way .avi files can be saved? Windows movie maker does not like any of the files to combine them and end up with a playable end result. what program can i utilize that works well with .avi

If you're interested in just play-back, grab VLC Media Player. Safe. No BS. It just plays what you want and installs proper codecs on your machine for just about everything out there.

If you aren't on a Mac, stop using QuickTime... for anything. Uninstall that shit.

You can also use HandBrake to encode video from one format to another.

I'm not an expert in this subject matter, but I have banged my head against it enough to have found work-arounds that the peanut inside my skull can manage.

.avi is not actually a "file format" as much as its a "package". It can contain any number of file types (and many file types can be encoded with a myriad of different codecs).

VLC Media Player is the best video player. I've never had a video file that I've thrown at it that it didn't play.

Stick with Windows Media Player for that. And convert any file WMP doesn't like with handbrake.

Windows media player is just a player isn't it?
