I was able to work the action enough to double check the chamber was empty, the tube was empty, so no cartridges exploded inside of it. Nothing appears to be "warped" from heat. When you contact Henry, provide them with that rifles serial number. It may help.

The bright side is you can get it in 45/70 this time.
Pops has emailed serial and details to Henry, waiting on their response.
he's also soaked the rifle with some oil and everything seems to be functioning reasonably well. There is hope!
Woof, 45/70. Price goes up doing that though!
Update: Henry says that if all the wood burned off it, the metal has most likely been annealed enough to scrap it. Wall hanger. RIP.
