Very interested in seeing how it turns out. Been wanting a little more smoke flavor than what the Traeger pellets have been giving me.

I keep the vent cover down approx 1' from closed. Unless it'son high / 450 pellet usage is moderate. I did leave a message for that business, seeing if they offer one for a Camp Chef.

It'll be interesting to see what Colo Rider gets for pricing going direct once shipping is added.

Did you happen to ask him for similar bulk pricing on cookinpellets bags?

I've been using the Traeger Gourmet pellets from Costco and had great results with them. At $19.99 for a 33lb. bag of 50% Maple, 25% Hickory, and 25% Cherry, the pricing is pretty good.

You all have convinced me to try the Traeger.
I have seen the TV ad for the Renegade Elite. Looking on their website I see other models. The reviews are very good.
My needs are to feed 2 people normally and sometimes 6 when we have company.
I have a 6 burner gas grill, a Weber charcoal grill, and an old electric smoker. I grill about 4-5 nights a week, so they do get used.
Anyone have experience with the Tailgater? It looks to have the desired features - digital controls, and the standard Traeger qualities, for the least price.
    Any advice is appreciated!

Stop in a few local stores for other options (makes) before committing to the tailgater. I agree with colorider, much too small for your needs. Not to mention the tailgater vents via slots in the back of the smoker.

There's no way to control heat & smoke in colder / windy weather compared to smokers with "chimneys" The Green Mountain Daniel Boone is $100 off, with 100" more sq. in.

This is the one we went with. 560" sq. in rack space

The Tailgater is purpose-built for tailgating. You'll soon find that it doesn't put out enough BTUs and the pellet bin is too small.

If you want one for tailgating, go for the GMG Davy Crockett. Excellent digital temperature control (and range), regular chimney for smoke release, and superb customer service (they even answered me on Thanksgiving!). I can do 3 racks of ribs in mine. $50 off at the moment.
