What types of ammo were used in each case? We're also comparing a rifle to a pistol. There are plenty of variables to debate.

The key point is it gives the antigun bozos an excuse to include mass murder 22 rim fire assault weapons in future gun laws.

A buddy of mine Chris Byrne, posted this the other day, and I had to save it:

So... leaving aside the ongoing human tragedy that is criminal violence in Chicago (3299 shot this year so far, 499 of whom died), the city provides a wealth of data for those who want to study the actual effects and effectiveness of firearms.
The first thing to note, is that firearms... particularly hand guns... are far less deadly than most people expect.
I have noted before... Generally speaking, about 85% of people who are shot, and receive proper medical care, survive...
Chicago data matches well with this... Approximately 84% of shooting victims this year so far have survived.
That's regardless of what they are shot with, or where of course... and those do make a big difference.
The differences between most handgun chamberings are so small as to be statistically insignificant. Being hit with a shotgun or centerfire rifle is certainly much more likely to kill you, but so few shootings involve these, as to again be statistically insignificant.
What IS significant, is shot placement.
While overall 84% of shooting victims in Chicago in 2016 survived their shooting, part of that is because only about 9% of victims were hit in the head, only about 20% were hit in the chest or back , and only 6% were hit in the abdomen, neck, or side each.
So overall, only about 45% of victims were hit in or around what shooters consider vital areas... and given the way they break the data down, likely less than half of those were what you would consider "high percentage" shots.
Of those not hit in vital areas only about 3% died (the data is a bit muddled, so it depends on how you count it)... meaning 97% survived. Of those hit in "vital areas" overall, only about 30% died and about 70% survived.
Even head shots aren't particularly reliable at killing people. Of all those shot in the head or face, about 60% died, and about 40% survived... and the numbers are similar for those shot in the chest.
So... as always... Handguns aren't particularly effective at killing people, even with good shot placement.
