    Default Strange Starbucks Conversation

I dropped my kid off at school this morning and headed over to the local grocery store Starbucks for the burnt, over-priced coffee that I love. I grabbed my 15 year old AR15.com zip up sweatshirt on the way out the door. It was a long line this morning, snaking out into the aisles of the store. A couple walked in after me, and as I moved aside to let them through, I said "End of the line is probably somewhere in baked goods."

The woman looked at my shirt and said "Well if you had brought your AR-15, you could have shot everyone else and demanded they make your coffee first."
Caught off-guard and unable to read the situation, I went with a deflection: "Yeah, but I hear they have bad coffee in prison."
The woman said "But I hear they have great showers."
I said "I suppose that depends on your perspective."

We had another interaction when I went to pick up my drinks that was equally as weird. During the whole conversation, the man she was with said absolutely nothing. The other patrons just sort of milled around silently. I have a lot of firearm branded clothing, but I don't normally dress like a GI Joe or a walking billboard for Guns & Ammo magazine, and this is the first time anybody has ever commented on my jacket. It was a strange way to start my day.

That's what you get for going to Starbucks?

I wouldn't have known what to say either and most likely would have said something stupid, or just laughed out loud. Seems like you handled it as well as it could have been handled to me. No anger, didn't take her comment seriously, no insult. You got a good story and she got nothing, even after a surprise attack.

So far nobody has been bold enough to say anything against it ... but I've gotten quite a few thumbs up

I wonder what her response would have been to this one?

Should have thanked her for letting you know who the last person you would defend if a gun wielding maniac came in.

The thing that gets me is that if these libtards actually believed that us gun owners are all an unhinged and dangerous lot prepared to murder people at the slightest provocation, why would they go out of their way to start shit with one of us?

I guess the answer is that they know their own stated beliefs are a lie.

That shirt is like when you think of the perfect thing to say 10 minutes after the conversation has ended.

So there is a second part to this story:
I have two Yeti cups with my corporate logo and name engraved on them. They are not pretty. One fell out of the back of my truck on the highway and got knocked around by traffic. It has road rash and a good sized dent in it. The other has been thrown in the back of our work vehicles many times and has been banged around by tools and supplies. I like to think of them as having 'character'.

I go to pick up my coffee and tea, and the same lady is right there behind me. "Oh my god, he has two Yetis."
I turned around and gave her the same line I give my employees all the time: "That's because I am fueled by caffeine and rage."
She repeated it twice, then told the beleaguered barista that she was "going to get that one in ink".

I really couldn't get a good read on the situation. One possibility is that it was an awkward public call-out, and that she kept it going because she didn't feel she got the effect she wanted.
Or she felt bad for having the first interchange, and was trying to engage me in conversation to seem normal.
Or she is one of those non self-aware people who wanted a conversation with a stranger.
Or she was hitting on me, in the way of 5th graders.
    I really couldn't tell.
