2) Public consumption of large quantities of alcohol

The world would be a lot more boring and tasteless without the Irish. (This post may or not be tasteless and historically inaccurate)

As a person of Irish and Scottish heritage, I am not offended. I usually carry outside the home (except at work as per the rules (wink, wink)) and if I am involved in the rare pub crawl, I will carry an umbrella with a hardened steel tip. At home I have access to what I need, even in the dark.

I understand your point of view. The best way to win a fight is to avoid the fight & situational awareness is the key. I would encourage you, though, if you're comfortable in doing so, to carry whenever is legally possible - while the odds are in your favor, you never know when Murphy will strike.

This is why I carry everywhere... Also for the fact that crime is not segregated to "bad" areas.
