Is there any real difference between the two. Everyone seems to rant about geissele the most but what about timney?

I committed to geissele triggers a long time ago and now have more then a few of them. Nothing wrong with Timney either. I'll tell you this, if I did it over again I would do AR gold triggers

I prefer my geissele's over the Timney's that I have tried. I've never owned a AR Timney (use a Timney in my bolt gun though), so I can only comment on the very limited trigger time that I have on a friends. With that said I don't have any reason to not continue with the multiple geisseles that I currently run.

My personal opinion...

If it's going to be for sporting use (hunting, casual target shooting, etc.) then the Timney would work just fine.

If it's going to be for more serious business or hard use, I'd opt for the Geissele.

I heard some horror stories about Timney AR triggers from Mike at Bowers. I think a lot of the issue he described was because of the enclosed design and dirt. Ironically, I love my Timney bolt gun triggers and have no issues. I have been running a Geissele flat trigger in an AR and it works great. My only wish is that the first stage was longer.

I've had one single stage timney and a few geisseles (SDE, SSA-E, S3G, G2S) and I recently sold my timney for another geissele. I like the Geissele break and reset better.

If it has a adjustable screw, it will go out of adjustment.

Realize that bolt gun triggers and AR15 triggers are very different animals.

I have a bunch of triggers in my ARs, all for various reasons. Geissele has a good following, and they are very good triggers. I personally think the hype is a little much and I prefer an AR-Gold. When I pick up a trigger off a prize table, I will keep it, and use it unless it is a Timney, then I sell them. I have seen too many Timney's fail unpredictably in matches for a variety of reasons. Certainly if you blow a primer or have a case head failure, it can damage any trigger, but the Timney's seem to have a much higher failure rate than any of the others that I just avoid them.

AR-Golds, CMCs, POFs and Geissele are, IMHO, some of the most durable long term. I also have Jards and JPs and they are very good, but they need some re-tune and maintenance somewhere in the 15K range.

My one Timney was great till it failed. It started to double and triple. While entertaining, it wasn't safe. They replaced it, and I sold it. I have three or four Geissele triggers now. I like them but don't love them. They all have a little creep, but I don't have a National Match. They're supposed to be very good.

I go back and forth on two stage vs single stage. I probably shoot single stage triggers a little better, but I like the security of a two stage for big matches where an ND means an early trip home.

FWIW, the new Larue trigger is pretty nice. Gonna be selling my Geissele and replacing it w/ the Larue.
