Default DOJ? What are you good for?

Seems like the DOJ has decided to take a vacation in place. Gov employees are now the untouchables.

If it had been a private industry consultant, the perpetrator would be jailed and the company bankrupt for paying fines and court costs.

The name says "Justice", but it has become so political that "Justice" has nothing to do with it.

What is the DOJ good for? Prosecuting the enemies of the people in charge.

The path for this was set a long time ago when Bill Clinton dismissed all 93 US Attorneys appointed by Reagan or Bush and another 30 besides. It was pretty clear that Clinton had politicized the DOJ back then, politicization that George W. Bush was unable to root out, and it has only gotten worse since then.

    This is basically correct.

The Department of Justice has a long history in the United States and was first tasked with educating congress with what was legal and not. After much growth in the bureaucracy of the government, the department's role changed, until, after an executive order by FDR, it has become what it is today. As the EPA is not an enemy of the people in charge, maybe the question should be, "Why doesn't a private group press charges against the EPA?"

If I had bottomless pockets of other people's money, it would be more likely. Seriously, court isn't an arbiter of right and wrong, it is a game of chicken - who can outspend the other. Going up against the FedGov, which uses our money against us, isn't practical.
