i had a manufacturer return gun say they delivered via fed ex and the driver decided to keep it, but I was paying attention online and called it in right away and they got him to actually deliver it an hour later.
I get over 100 packages a week from FedEx. It's rare when they screw up. Ups, different experience.
You can't call the insurance company directly to ask claims questions without a claim being opened. You honestly probably wouldn't want the advice of someone in their call center either.
I have everything delivered here to the shop. UPS and Fedup get a delivery signature on commercial deliveries.

Discussion is an exchange of intelligence. Argument is an exchange of
ignorance. Ever found a liberal that you can have a discussion with?
Throwing out a bit of hope here....back when I was sponsored by Montana Gold, a woman stopped in my drive one day. I walked out to see what she wanted and she says, "uh, I sees you live at 175 north haven and i's live over at 175 (something or another) is got some heavy ass boxes in my drive that ain't mine. They yours?" I went over and sure enough 5 cases of bullets, something like 17,500 .40 Bullets to the wrong house.
Once in in a lifetime luck.

I'm not sure how FedEx does it but ups can run the GPS. Fed ex might be able to do the same. Also if you can have everything taken to the office. The apts. I del. to sign for all pkgs. they rec.
Just out of curiosity, how much would you guys pay to have packages delivered to a local business in the metro area? You'd have to pick your packages up by 4-5pm though. If I knew of a friendly business owner, and I was expecting an important package, I might pay $10 to have it delivered some place where I know that someone will be around to bring it inside until it could be picked up.
