Every time I have issues with traveling by plane it's always on one of the smaller, cheaper airlines.

Silly boy. *ALL* the airlines suck - and NONE of them give a shit about you.

I figured somebody like United needed the gate so they just made us wait.

Not the way it works. I have waited for 3+ hours at the gate, in August, without AC - on United.
