Default .223 and 5.56 ammo question

I picked up some new 223 and 556 ammo. One box was Winchester 556 and another a 'bargain' 223 rounds. From both boxes, I found rounds that had the 'throat' of the round 'blued'. It was like it was heated or 'treated'.
What is this? Is this normal?
Thanks for your input on this 'dumb' question!

Annealing and total normal for milspec ammo.

For NIB ammo that is made to milspec, all rounds should be consistently annealed. If your bargain .223 is reloads then some of that brass might have been annealed and some not.

I will reserve my opinion of bargain reloaded ammo.

Thanks, Skip. Question answered. And the bargain ammo did not say 're-loads'. Great info on the link!

    Bargain?

As in white box? Something like PPU white box isn't really bargain, good MILSPEC stuff. IMHO, better than the Winchester.

Then again, I don't recall ever seeing PPU in anything other than 5.56NATO.

It's horrible. So sorry your ammo purchase was a bust. However, because I might intend to do some slowmo safety testing videos with 3D printed uppers and barrel extensions, I'll take them off your hands.

All brass is annealed from the factory, not just milspec. Most polish it afterwards, so you don't see it.
