    Default Pistol mounted light?

While I'm sure there is a thread about this somewhere, I searched but couldn't find it and I figured there have probably been technological advances that make starting a new thread feasible.

Anyhow, I'm thinking of putting a light on a couple of my handguns and wanted to see who likes which ones these days.

Pretty sure I'd like something in LED, have no idea how many lumens is sufficient, would probably get one in black and one in FDE, don't need anything with lasers or anything else, and lightweight and durable are also desirable features.

School me up on the latest and greatest.

    Thanks.

Surefire x300. Not the cheapest on the market, but I've had excellent luck with mine and I've owned at least a dozen - one in particular that's seen well in excess of 10k rounds and is still going strong. I prefer the older models (prior to the Ultra) but the new ones come in tan, so that may be a plus for you. I've also never had trouble finding holsters that would fit a x300, which can't be said for some other offerings. YMMV, but I've been pleased with the lights for my needs (classes, night stand, mall ninja, looking cool etc.)

My vote is for the Streamlight TLR-1. I have two TLR-1’s a TLR-2 and a TLR-3. The TLR-3 is smaller but I don’t like it because the battery type is a CRV. The TLR-2 and 3 (has laser) use CR123 and they tend to be easier to find, last longer and are generally cheaper to buy. I have seven of their flashlights as well and all of them use the CR123’s so it is good to buy batteries in quantity. Neve’s is a Streamlight dealer and repair facility, you can bring them back to them anytime you have an issue. They will send it in if they can’t fix it and it’s free for life. You don’t have to buy from them either, just a good place for service.

can depend on the gun--for instance, the surefire X300U is a bright light, 600 lumens, but is longer than the frame of a full sized glock. Surefire makes the XC1, which is 200 lumens, but fits perfectly to the end of a glock 19, and is no wider than a 19.

The XC1 also runs on one AAA battery.

don't get me wrong, i love bright lights, but if your plan (to the extent we can make such a plan) is likely indoor use only, or at general handgun ranges, 200 lumens from the XC1 make it a compelling choice given it's size. streamlight makes a compact light called the TLR-6 that is similar in size to the Surefire XC1, but only 100 lumens (and less than half the price). I've not seen one in action, though, and 100 lumens may be cutting yourself short.

To those guys running the TLR-1's, have you ever mounted them on a rifle? I've seen interviews with folks that mount the X300U on rifles, but haven't heard much about the TLR-1 on rifles (as opposed to a flashlight mount or a side mounted light like the INFORCE)

Thanks. I'm planning on putting one on a Glock 19 and the other will most likely go on a Sig Mk25.

I know the TLR-1 is a popular light but is it an LED light? I think the TLR-HL is an LED but it seems like the rated lumens might be a bit overkill.
