Police Officer Nicholas Smarr was shot and killed after responding to a report of a domestic violence incident.

Officer Smarr responded to a call of of domestic violence at an apartment complex near the Georgia Southwestern University campus. A GSU officer responded as backup. When the officers arrived, they were shot by the domestic violence suspect. Officer Smarr died from his wounds, and the GSU officer was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
