    Default subsonic 308 loads?

Anyone care to share their subsonic 308 favorite loads? Be especially interested in loads with 180 gr Sierras. Or tell me why lighter, other than obvious drop, is a better choice? I'm new to this subsonic quite rifle stuff.

    Trailboss and light bullets.

Unless you have a fast twist barrel, the low velocities don't get the RPMs up high enough to stabilize the bullets.

I am using 125 Speer TNTs. Holds 1.5 MOA out to 500 yards or so.

I've tried 175's and 168's using TG. With a 1:12 twist they keyhole, bad @ 100. Haven't put on paper a 150 yet. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a 168 tumbling @ 1-1100 fps.

Using data right off the Hodgdon web site, I have used 8 grains of Clay behind a 168 gr Sierra Matchking to demo suppressors........1060 FPS and good out to 100-125 yards or so.

Be careful about cooking up your own loads by reducing the minimum charge on standard stuff, you can blow up the gun........FWIW

    SMK 175 and 200's
    Tight group 7.8 gr
    Win brass, 2.010
    CCI 200

The 175's are 1,069 av speed (CB shot 904). Haven't tested MV on the 200's but they both shoot without keyholes with my 700 1/10 twist. I went back to the 175's because I can get out to 400+ yards. The 200's dropped pretty quick so I didn't test them out very far.

I'm a complete reloading noob. Is there any advantage to a subsonic .308 instead of just going with .300 blackout? (Assuming you had guns that shot both calibers)

Thank you, I was going to ask the same thing.

Also, seems like a shooter is limited to avg. 500 yards give or take with subsonic .308?

It can shoot further but you run out of elevation in your scope.

None whatsoever, the "advantage" is not building/buying a blackout. Same bullets, same speed. Advantage if any is that the blackout typically comes with a 1:8 twist and therefore can run the 200's and stabilize them thereby delivering more energy at the same speed.
