COS Airport - Uber is drop-off only for time being

Heads up for you traveling folks: for the time being Uber is only allowed to drop off and not pick up from COS Airport.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - As of Monday, those who use Uber are only allowed to be dropped off at the Colorado Springs Airport and not picked up. New ground transportation rules and regulation are being implemented.

For the past six months Colorado Springs has been working with Transportation Network Companies, or TNCs, such as Uber and Lyft. Both Uber and Lyft work as a type of taxi service.
At this time Lyft has executed an agreement and has officially started operating at the airport. Allowing people to use Lyft to go to and from the airport as a ground service.
Uber drivers are only allowed to drop off passengers at the airport until an agreement is made. The airport says the delay is due to internal technology issues.
We reached out to Uber and they released the following statement:
"Every airport is unique and COS is no different. We remain in discussions with airport officials, have proposed a handful of solutions, and hope to reach an agreement soon so that Uber drivers can continue to facilitate safe, affordable rides for passengers going to and from the airport."



We also talked to a local Uber driver. He tells us he's frustrated.
"Waking up and finding out that we're allowed to drop off but not pick up made no sense to me at all, it made no sense at all," said Mark Medina. "If it's gotta be two bucks a pickup, you know, charge me two bucks."
The airport says they plan to have the issues resolved in the near future. We'll let you know what happens.

Actually, they must already have a means of doing it as Lyft has an agreement. Sounds more like Uber is not agreeing to the airports terms.

So not a fan of taxi cartels and govt control of commerce.

Just wait until the Airport decides to charge people a $1 for being dropped off/picked up and say it's for road maintenance. I wouldn't be surprised if this is already accounted for in the fees they collect from airlines or whatever -- unsure how it works -- but I'd totally expect them to double dip.

The airport already does this - $1 surcharge on any taxi ride departing the airport. Lyft got an operating agreement by agreeing to charge the $1 fee, as well. Uber will cave - might be they're trying to get it down to $.75 or something, though.
