Denver has new law to impound your car if you don't have your license on you.

Even if you are licensed, and just forgot it, they will still impound your car, and guess what else? You get to pay $2,500 PLUS fees, fines, and taxes, to get it out of impound. Right now, if you are driving while your license is current, but don't have your DL on you, the officer can look you up based on your name and see that you are not suspended or forbidden to drive. So you get a warning, or even a ticket that gets dropped as soon as you show your license to the court. Under this law, even if you are licensed, and just forgot it, sucks for you.

My attention was drawn to this when I saw a story on the evening news about the 30 people that protested this on the capital steps today. Apparently they are trying to re-write the ballot. This is one of those things that if you disagree with it, don't just think, "I sure hope that doesn't pass." Instead, you should get off your ass and write to your elected officials about. Obviously you should write to people in Denver where this is taking place.

This was written to try and deal with Illegal’s who were not being ticketed at all. The problem is the law gives the officer the option of when to enforce and does not allow for legal DL holders who failed to carry the DL that day.

The intent was to impound cars of those driving without a current DL, but was written to broadly and includes those that failed to carry the DL, not just those that do not have one.

For how long winded and thorough these things are I find it hard to believe that it was a simple oversight that it didn't include verbiage to protect license holders w/o their physical DL on their person. With every law like this some more freedoms are chipped away. Little by little.

I believe the person who hit me was illegally in this country. I even went down to the station after everyone dispersed and filed a complaint to no avail.

the vet was ticketed and impounded under orders from higher ups. the .gov folks were trying to make an issue of impounding only non-hispanic (read: other than illegal) to get the folks to rise up and have the law shitcanned.
this vet had peter boyles and a bunch of other folks pay his fine and get the car released. the denver mayor (hickonpooper)had agreed to kick in 1/2 the fine to get the car out. he reneged and boyels hounded him on the air until hizhonor coughed up the money.

the post ran a few articles pimping how this was racist, blah blah blah.
polly baca who was a major proponent of ticketing "excessivly loud" motorcycles said she felt targeting a specific group to get tough was ok with her. YET when the impound law was happening she felt it was not only unfair but (wait fot it) Racist to be targeting a specific group (read) hispanics.

So you are a illegal, you get your car towed if you don't have your DL. What if it someone elses DL? Do you really think they will do anything to a illegals, I don't.

they don't even hardly nail the illegals for DUIs. what, just give them free living and board? more of a burden to the sherrif or cop that has to house them.
I have talked with adams county sherrifs who said they have pulled over the same guys multiple times, arrest them, they get out in the next few days, and they don't show up for court or anything since there isn't a real address, so the cops get no money, they lose money on the food and board and wasted time. I think it is bullshit. document them, the 2nd time they are caught, deport their ass.

anyways, as to the bill...another load of bullshit, but just make sure you have your license with you!
