I think Mils are easier than MOA because everything is 1/10, but it really doesn't matter much. If all you buddy's are in mils or minutes it is a little easy to share wind calls. If you can learn to speak in values (like full / half value) or even better, actual mph it make the differences moot.

I would also recommend getting a reticle that is newer that a old fashion mil-dot. Get a First Focal plane scope! The one you listed is not 1st focal, that is why it is less cash. If you serious about long range (or you're wife is) make sure you get a FFP scope.

Burris XTR II 4-20x is a great scope, better than the 5-25x version. SCR reticle has 2/10ths mil marks which are great. The Gen2 mildot reticle is OK, I personally would only get the SCR.
If you want a Vortex I would wait for the Generation 2 PST. It should be much improved over the current models better zero-stop, glass, etc.
Bushnell DMR2 (or DMR / HDMR) is good scope in this class also. Not sure if it is within you're budget.
There are some other options out there too and more companies are getting in the game.

Feel free to PM and I would be happy to help or try to explain any of this stuff.

So it's between a burris 4-20 with a scr-mil model number 201042 for $1000ish and a Vortex PST 6-24 EBR-1/EBR-2c but that looks like, it's dead jim. Maybe I can use my amazon credits through optics planet to get an old model but either way, I'll have to save some more pennies....unless Vortex is going to put their gen2 models for a much lower price point next spring.
Using Amazon will be the limfac.

I have a PST 6-24 FFP EBR2C Mil on my Rem700 if you are interested in looking through it. I am a newb and don't have anything to compare it to, but i feel it's more of a scope than I will ever need for a 308.

I'd pull the 4-20 off my AR if you really want one. OR sell you a 3-15. Both XTRii's with full burris warranty. I have the box and paperwork for the 3-15, probably the same for the 4-20. The 4-20 with PEPR mount was on a RPR. Still have the dope card for it, somewhere.

I love the Burris XTR II scopes I have. Are they the equal of my Kahles? No, but for the price point they are excellent. I have several vortex PST as well but prefer the Burris.

Go with the Burris over the Viper PST, hands down, I've had 2 Viper PST's (still have one) 5 XTRII's (still have 2 of them) and still have a Gen 1 Razor. Just handling a pst vs a Burris it will become obvious which is more durable. Also the Burris Gets you into a 34mm Tube (Better light transmission, more travel for reaching longer shots without having to hold over, etc) In all honesty I think the Burris is really close to the class of scope that a Gen 1 Razor is. Plus the SCR reticle is hands down better IMO than anything Vortex is currently producing.

As to the power in the burris, go 4-20, again, far better package than the 5-25. The 5-25 gets so dark above 20X that extra 5X is almost unusable anyway, and the 4-20 is a physically smaller package. I've owned both and shot plenty with both, I sold my 5-25's and still have my 4-20's.

All that said, You can normally find Gen 1 Razors used for the same price as the Burris and it's got better glass.

One last one I'd suggest you consider is a Bushnell 3.5-21 Elite Tactical. https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Tact.../dp/B006UJ03H0

I have a Burris 3-15 and 5-25. I agree that the 4-20 is probably the best choice. Come up to Woodland Park and fondle them. There might be a NF ATACR, Vortex PST, USO, and a couple of Steiners you can look through for comparison sake lying around here somewhere.

I would check out the Bushnell Elite ERS or XRS line of scopes. Great glass (Japan), good reticle, flawless adjustments (locking turrets and zero stop) and a no questions asked warranty. The only thing that the Bushnell ERS is lacking is the ability to illuminate the reticle (The HDMR II has an illuminated reticle). I have been running four different versions of the Elite Tactical series on various platforms for a while now with no issues. You can find a used ERS 3.5-21 for around the $1000-$1200 range and the older DMR scope can be picked up even cheaper but lacks zero stop and 10 mil per rotation turrets.

The Burris XTR II scope does seem like it offers a lot of features for the price point and I would like to place my hands on one. I do like the SCR reticle as it offers .2 Mil wind holds.

Oh and Vortex does offer a similar reticle (EBR-7) to the SCR but it is in a much different price point (Razor AMG).

Thanks all. (Forgot to subscribe to my own thread...lol)
I have leading contender in the xtr 4-20 but with most of my funds locked to amazon it will be awhile before i can pull the trigger seeing how the $500-1000 price range was unrealistic. (do it right or don't do it....to a point)
And correct me if i'm wrong but SCR/MIL would be this one: https://www.amazon.com/Burris-4-20x-...s=xtri+ii+4-20
