I picked up a scope for my AR. PROSTAFF 3-9x40 and the proper mount for the scope.
I have 2 problems with it. 1st - I can not use the scope with my ear muffs on. They must be removed before I can use the scope properly. Not a big deal cause I can wear ear plugs. Ear muffs hit the stock where I cannot see thru the scope.
2nd - My neck really hurts as I get my eye in the right place. REALLY HURTS! I can only stand less much less that 30 seconds with my head at that angle. My Savage HMR17 with a scope does not pose that problem. It is like I would like to move the AR stock DOWN an inch or so.... and I am aware that you can't do that. The adjustable stocks adjust UP... not down! (as far as I know)
I'm 6'2" 200 lbs.
This problem is so bad that I'm thinking of giving up on the main use of my AR and that is rodent elimination...

You just need a taller scope mount. Typical is in the 2.5-2.7 inch range, but there are mounts as high as 3.5". I have a few friends that are really tall, one uses a 3" and the other a 3.3". If you like the mount you have, just use a riser rail.

If you used "normal" scope mounts, it's probably way too low. Take a look at the Burris pepr online and see how much space there is from rail to bottom of the scope.

Less expensive route would be to install a riser of the appropriate height.
