I don't believe I can get USAA. We only had auto insurance through 21st Century. I'll get in touch with our homeowners insurance company and see what they have to offer. Our auto ins. rates went down every renewal period, I was impressed with that. Never had a claim though.
    Thanks for the tips, guys!

If you were ever in the military and honorably discharged you can. You may also be able to get it if you have a parent who was in the military. It's worth giving them a call to find out. I've been with USAA for my car for over 35 years, financed cars, a motorcycle and an RV, and just switched over homeowners to them, too. We've only had one claim in the last 5 years or so but they've always been good to us.

USAA had expanded who they will cover to relatives. I think one person even told me that they have coverage because an uncle was enlisted. It's worth a call to find out.

I had to switch companies last fall because Allstate was being unreasonable with my house; my really good agent was powerless against their nonsense so I have nothing good to say about them. Unfortunately, USAA would not insure my mountain house either. State Farm not only insured my house but cut my premium in half. My auto rates are pretty good especially the multi car discount. I am not sure about claims; I've never had an auto claim against my insurance in 31 years of driving so I get every discount offered.

Technically, it only should transfer to immediate family. Last year Geico started gouging me, so I had my grandfather (WW2 USAF vet) sign up for the cheapest possible USAA policy ($30/year). As soon as he was all signed up, my dad signed up for the same. And since it passes down, I was then able to sign up as the descendant of another USAA member and have my cars, renter's, and firearms through USAA. Thanks Grandpa!

I use Safeco for the cars and house, Progressive (Yeah, I know...) for the bikes. My auto rates went up about 5 percent this year, which I can live with. My business liability insurance went up 38% year over year, which massively sucks since the insurer is one of only a very few that will write a policy for a motorcycle shop. 20 years without a business claim.

I haven't had any issues with USAA for home/auto including a recent roof claim. I had a house built in the 1890s that USAA would not insure and had a fun time with 2nd rate Desert Specialty Underwriters. Took 2 months to get a check for the roof.

A top rated company like USAA for those that can't get it is Amica. They put 3 roofs on for me over 10 years and my rates only went up about 15%.
