Default Vizio TV internet connection DNS #

OK so I'm getting slow streaming speed from my TV. I have a good signal on the Wifi and a direct connect to my Vizio on board network card. Problem is 300kbs is the best it can do using DHCP. I switched to direct input and used a few DNS numbers like 8.8.8.8 which jumped up to 450kbs and 75.75.75.75 now have 550kbs. This is horrible!

Any tech's out there that have a fast DNS address for Boulder?

Using Arris SB6190 Modem for Comcast internet.

Can Comcast control the modem when setting it up to lock things down?

Comcast doesnt "lock down" your TVs speed.
8.8.8.8 is Google's DNS, 75.75.75.75 is Comcast's. Neither should impact a typical speed test, as the DNS is just used to resolve a domain.
Try disabling WMM in your router.

Yep, DHCP is simply a way for your router to give your device an IP address. And DNS is used to convert URL like "www.google.com" into the correct numeric x.x.x.x IP address. The speed of a DNS lookup should not affect anything but the initial creation of the connections.

Thanks for the help so far, I'll work on it tonight so any suggestions are appreciated. The speed of the network is fine just to make that statement. It's just the communication from the Google Wifi pod to the TV by network cable. I assumed the Wifi receiver on the TV is slower than direct connect.

Fwiw, 75.75.75.75 and (probably google's 8.8.8.8) are cached or directed to your (geographically) local DNS server presence.

Your (onboard) local DNS cache should minimize the need to re-poll.

Agreed as above-though; it shouldn't have any impact on your throughput. I'd sooner guess shitty/spotty wifi. Maybe if you're at the edge of 5GHz reception, the AP may be switching bands.

I got tired of dealing with Wi-Fi bridges for my media devices and went to Ethernet over power line. Much more reliable for me.

ETA: I have that same cable modem. It's a solid piece of kit. My older cable modem only had 4 channels and I wasn't getting the bandwidth I was paying for. Now I get more bandwidth than what Comcast says I'm paying for.

This. Don't use wifi when ethernet is an option.

Ubiquiti Unifi and never fucking look back. Commercial grade with nary more configuration than consumer shit.

Not even comparable how much better the Unifis are. They're what wifi should be in your mind.
