Thinking some more about it last night, it's pretty clear that it was just a script that JJ Abrams bought and tacked a few Cloverfield elements on to. The script was originally called "The God Particle"

There are 3 or 4 scenes that feature Cloverfield elements, and the rest of the film survives completely independent of them.

Sorry I thought it was garbage. Luckily it was on Netflix so I didn't have to pay to see it in a theatre.

Yep, and I'm not even finished yet.

Did finish Godless though and thought that was good. Hope they don't have another season.

I struggle with Jon Bernthal. His characters just strike me as unlikable, and I can't decide if it is the character or just him. He always plays the same basic character in each film. I liked him somewhat better in Wind River (v. good movie!).

I started Punisher and got to about the 3rd or 4th episode where he has the big battle in the woods at his buddy's off grid home. They make such a huge deal about his honorable ways and respect for other servicemen, then proceeds to blow away a bunch of guys sent by the government. Because they didn't develop the characters of the hit group, it isn't clear if they are blackwater type contractors or actual servicemen following the orders of a crooked boss. I saw no obvious reason they weren't the same exact situation as the Bernthal character, misused and misled by a higher up with bad intentions. Just haven't gone back to the show to see where it goes from there. Maybe someone can help me around this sticky concept on this one.

The wife suggested watching Solomon Kane. It was OK. Maybe The Following has poisoned me on James Purefoy. He was great in that one, and that same character works for him in Altered Carbon, but he just didn't fit the Solomon character well. Worth a watch.

You over thought The Punisher. He was going against "shadowy" orgs who were responsible for his family's death. Which as usual were off book ops. Remember he was good at killing, killing his family was not the best plan.

I hate medical shows and somehow I've been sucked into "The Resident" and now I'm addicted. It's actually a pretty decent show.

SEAL Team is well worth the watch. My only complaint is they seem to have a new mission every single episode...wish they'd let a mission play out over several episodes to increase drama and suspense for the viewer.

I agree. Seal Team is pretty good. Also check out The Brave. I really like that one as well.
