    Default National Match Air Rifle

Anyone see this pilot program from the CMP? Looks like it might be a fun way to get the rust off in the off season. I've been shooting a Daisy 953 in the basement at 10m for a while and wouldn't mind trying an event like this out. Might not transfer over to your actual high power equipment but seems like a great way to maintain some trigger time and work on the mind game/form. Best of all it really doesn't take up much space. A guy could arrange a pretty informal match in a garage with several shooting points. Targets are even cheap something like $25 for 250. I think.

I regularly, as in a few times a week, shoot a break barrel pellet gun at 20m. I shoot at a .22 steel swinger.

I use it to practice my off hand and sitting positions when I either don't have the time or money to go and shoot.

It will absolutely get the rust off.

I also use a CO2 15 shot pellet pistol to practice point shooting. It shoots plenty flat at 25ft and has rough trigger that makes it necessary to perform all actions properly in order to be consistently on target.

It has been researched that it takes 10,000 hrs. of practice before one becomes an expert in something. Whether that be hockey, golf, piano, violin, or shooting. Shooting regularly, even pellet shooting, helps you become the best shooter you can be.

I shoot my air rifle (Annie 9003) in my basement a lot. I can get just under 10 meters. I use both paper targets and a SCATT electronic trainer.

By far the best training you can get.

Never used an electronic trainer but they look pretty sweet. Would love to have one. The last one I looked at was around the $1500 range. I figured I could just spot the target myself with my spotting scope but the feedback would be awesome from the electronic system. On my good days I've gotten to where I can keep shots nearly touching with maybe one flyer that opens me up to about a dime sized group. It's really helping my offhand. I'm sure. We'll see if I suck less next year at the Pueblo Garand matches.
