The exact same scenario happened to me in San Antonio around 1991. Lunch time, ringing the bell multiple times, goes around back. He hopped my privacy fence and was attempting to open my sliding door with a large screwdriver when he looked up and noticed me with a shotgun trained on him. The cops caught him a couple of blocks away.
