And yes - essentially other people have the content stored somewhere and you would just be streaming it from their location.

Ask me anything as I've been using for months now.
That sounds like the infinity box. I talked to a co-worker and he used to have a dragon box - sounds like all the same thing. Android platform running an app. How do you like the Thorstream? How much do they run, do you have a monthly subscription you have to pay? And does it "buffer" a ton if you have a slower internet connection?

Unfortunately I have a Roku stick, NOT the firestick. I saw Kodi, but would have to run it thru a different device and "mirror" with my roku - basically watching TV on a phone and the roku can display whats on the phone.

Catch: The box is grabbing streams of content it finds on the internet, which in many cases may be illegally distributed.

I use the Mi Box. Android based and installed Kodi for all my movies and TV. I also installed an HD antenna in the attic for local channels during important events (Football) where streaming might be over loaded. Pick it up at Walmart for $69 and you just need an internet connection.

Other people host the content and you stream it from them.

I love it. Use it for sports and TV show daily. Thorstream is $300 for the box. No monthly fee. They have a tech support app and updates routinely always adding new add one. Between UFC, NHL and NBA - mine is paid off already. It can buffer a lot at lower speeds. I've had some slow connections. Changed add ons and it worked fine. Also resetting modem weekly works.

I have Smart TV's. I dont need a Service provider like Roku etc. to watch tv correct? Can't I just search online for shows and watch them?
If the Odds are equal, you're doing it wrong

You need to install Kodi and you're set. Most (If not all) TV's don't allow this so a box is needed to stream the latest movies without fees. You can install Kodi on your laptop or computer and connect to the TV as well. No need to buy a box.
