Default 2017 Burris Optics Regional Steel Challenge

Again this year Burris Optics, a Colorado Company, is the main match sponsor for the Rocky Mountain Regional Steel Challenge Championship. 26-27 May 2017.

Burris has put over $5,000 on the prize table. Prizes are given out via random drawing.

Like previous years the match will be held at the Pueblo West Sportsmans Assn range in Pueblo, Colorado and it is open to the public.

Shooters under 16 shoot for free.

You can shoot up to four different guns for match score. This is a cash payback match with all profits going back to the top shooters in divisions with 10 or more shooters.

We will set up all 8 Steel Challenge stages. Total round count is a minimum of 195 rounds.

Those that are shooting the IDPA-SSP division (USPSA Production is comparable) a cover garment is not required. However all other IDPA gear rules/requirements apply.

Pistol Caliber Carbine (yes, we were trend setters) will again be offered.

Fridays match will be open squadding and shooting can start as early as 11:00. Saturdays match starts at 8:00.

Lunch is provided for Saturday shooters.

Contact me with any questions you might have.

Below is a link to the application.

I looked at the PDF and am a bit confused. Is this pistol only except for rimfire/pistol caliber rifle?

Pretty much. Lots of guys use M&P 22-15s and 10/22s. My M&P rifle gets loaned out every year for this match and the NSSF match.

Shooting steel up close with a rifle would most likely end bad. While all my steel is AR-500, a 12 inch plate at 10 yards is going to get chewed up and eventually start throwing frag back.

We used to have a local 3-gun match that shot steel with rifles at 15-20 yards month after month. People were always getting hit with frag. I quit going after the MD said it was not a big deal and just deal with it.

    Ah, nice.

So would a 15-22 w/ red dot and/or irons be competitive?

What about 15-22 w/ irons only?

We combine Optic Sight and Iron Sight rimfire into one division. So whatever you feel more comfortable with, use that. Up close irons are just as fast as optics. Past 15-20 yards optics get faster. At this match most all of the targets are inside 20 yards. Past that, the targets are 18x24.

Ok, cool. I'll be doing this.

If anyone else wants to do this but doesn't have needed equipment, I plan to do Saturday and have an extra 15-22 w/ red dot and 4 mags. Only thing I'd ask is you use my supplied ammo (I only run one ammo type through these) and pay for that at my replacement cost (or alternately trade me some ammo in .22LR, 9mm, or .223/5.56 at value of the used .22 ammo).

However, if someone will be shooting and needs an extra setup for their kid (under 18), I'll eat the ammo cost to encourage youth involvement.
