Offered a Rem 1187 Police

**I did get to shoot the Remmy today, I really must be a wimp or my shoulder is worse than the last time the doc looked at it-didn't enjoy shooting it. However the Henry is no longer unfired, that was fun! Especially with .38s but the mags were no big deal either. He decided to keep it ater shooting it lol. Oh well, I think I'll have to just buy one anyway. Thanks for all the feedback and ideas**

A friend is selling off a Remington 1187 Police model, it has some improved parts (large knob safety, Scattergun mag spring and follower, side saddle). Due to a shoulder injury I have problems with recoil on most guns heavier than the 5.56. Haven't fired it, I get first right of refusal, $500. I'm thinking it'd be good for the home, camping, travel truck gun. Thoughts?

If recoil is a problem, you may want to look at a 20 gauge. Otherwise, I prefer the 870 just because it is the shotgun I am most familiar with.

IMO, no home should be without a few shotguns. They are the most versatile long gun, again, IMO.

That's cheaper than the police trade in 11-87's coming in...and I bet your buddy's gun probably doesn't have the wear associated with a police trade in...
Also, it's a gas system so the recoil should be lighter...
I would buy if you're missing a decent shotgun from your collection.

Thanks guys, we have a standing deal that we cut each other lots of slack on stuff and if we ever want to sell the other guy gets first crack at the original sale price. Quite used to the 870, had an HK imported Benelli a loong time ago. I like the idea of a gas gun to soften the recoil, I know the 1187 have the ports that need to be kept clean. It's one of those guns that wouldn't get shot much but don't want to have pain when I do lol.

1187's shoot "soft", they always have (much softer than benelli's or Beretta's)

But they can be finicky and because they are running on gas, they have to be cleaned a lot. 8/10 times if you see a guy on the clays course with a jammed semi-auto it's a Remington 1100 series.

For a clays gun, perfect, for a GOTTA WORK WHEN IT'S GOTTA WORK, I'd pass.

You can always change out the seals with the normal ones so it will run lower recoil ammo.

Thanks all, I'll get to shoot it this weekend, not sure which day yet, and that'll allow me to decide. He also has a brand new Henry All Weather lever gun in .357 that looks mighty tempting too hahaha.

I'd take the Henry over the 11-87 if you have to choose only one.
