Greeley is even more of a micro version of that. The people who live in "west greeley" (it's not a separate city) think that nothing happens in that area. The shithole gang banger area is a 5 minute drive away from their hoa haven.

Seriously, though when I read these articles I always look for the, "This never happens in Douglas County/Parker/Franktown/Lone Tree comments. Everyone knows Castle Rock is messed up. I can't tell you how many times I was told on a call by a citizen, "Nothing ever happens down here." Except stuff happens down there all the time. And as this state gets dumber it will happen more and more when Denver and Aurora continue to grow, light rail continues to move through Aurora and further north. People in crappy areas know that people in Douglas County have nice things.

I'm not suggesting that criminals in Douglas County came from Arapahoe County first...just point out.

That whole neighborhood is $300k + over the years, now $4-500k. Looks like it backs to million dollar homes. No idea how they picked that area to target her, short of she was coming home at 12:30 a.m.

Yup, Parker road comes right into that part of Parker from Aurora/Denver. Easy to drive deeper into suburbia to find someone less suspecting. Wait at the entrance to a neighborhood and follow them home.
