You can probably just call your carrier and enable texts on your current phone.

Smart phones require data to do anything . Bar, slider and flip phones can text without data

I use straight talk with a samsung galaxy. It is $45 a month, so considerably more. I tried a Motorola, but they will not accept the"mass text" sent out from the dispatch computer when we are paged out for a fire. Make sure your phone will accept the mass text.

No direct experience, but a quick look at specs, the LG Destiny looks to be the best value.

5.0 Lollipop, micro SD card slot, 8GB internal

I would go drive them locally if you can before you decide.

Is that list based on your budget to spend on a phone, or what you're limited to where you're looking? Using a Weld county zip on tracfone's site, there appear to be more options.

https://www.amazon.com/TracFone-Sams.../dp/B01LXLGYSJ this is the 8GB phone

https://www.amazon.com/TracFone-Sams...0QHQ3XCEX&th=1 this is the 16GB phone

Bloatware will likely consume 4GB on these phones so you'll have little left to install other apps... I'd make that $119 16GB the top contender.

You're stuck with most of the preloaded bloatware unless the phone has a safe root method and gets rooted. Then you're likely to void any warranty.

Some of the carriers let you disable some of the bloatware. Check in the device settings-application manager. If you installed an external SD, you can also move some apps off internal storage to the SD card.

Zege - once you assign that ringtone, it will get stored in the default location for that media by the phone OS, so it's probably safe to uninstall Zedge.

I do recommend swype for a replacement keyboard.

FYI, Google Play has a Family Library for sharing paid apps if you have any other Android smart phones.

If you don't have a dedicated scanner or are interested in nationwide events, take a look at Scanner Radio.

Camscan lets you take photos of documents and convert them to PDF. I've found that to be very handy.

Hey while we're talking about this, does anyone know how to edit the dictionary in the phone? I'd really like it if my phone would stop thinking that "amd" is a word and auto-correcting to make me look like an idiot all the time.
