Default Damn the man? Damn you AAC!

Last few tubes of rocksett that came with their QD brakes hard as a rock.

Guess I should just buy a small bottle.

    Bastards.

I prefer high temp red Loctite myself, I've never had good luck with rocksett.

    Putting on or taking off?

I've many already mounted without issue and one soaking in water now that will be my first take off.

Well damn, that was a bust.

After a 24 hour soak, chucked it up in the vise with a Brownells torque rod and only managed to slip a wrench off the mount.

I guess it's sacrificial now unless I buy or borrow an AAC tool.

So much for mounting my DIY can on my 9" 300BLK today.

I've got an AAC tool you can borrow. I'll be down off Arapahoe and Jordan Tuesday morning.

I honestly don't use either rocksett or loctite....just check torque often!

I have a couple brakes installed with rocksett come unscrewed while still attached to the can, that's why I like the high temp red loctite. If I need to remove a brake the application of some heat will break down the loctite and brake comes right off. I don't know if the rocksett goes bad after a time or what, but the loctite has been fine.

Dude... what are you doing? Just bring it to Bowers. We have an AAC tool and can usually torque them off. If it's too tight, we have a special process that usually pops them free in 30 minutes. We also have a whole drawer of Rocksett to reinstall.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Then they were installed incorrectly or with bad Rocksett. Lock tite 272 is only good to 450 degrees F. Rocksett is solid to well over 1300 degrees F. You have oil on the threads and Rocksett with fail. They have to be clean and dry.

It's a very rare situation that I can say red lock tite has a place on an AR, this isn't one of them.

    Thanks,

I got it off easy peasy with Eric's borrowed AAC tool and my Brownells torque rod.

I should probably invest in one myself.

I was trying to cheap out and avoid paying a smith charge.
