publicly -- the death penalty has become too sterilized from the public eye. Those who harm society should have justice seen by society. I won't use the preventative nature argument. It's about justice, pure and simple.

X amount of appeals -- 1 appeal. Bad conviction revealed after execution? Too bad. We all die eventually. Knowing one's imminent death is a grace, as it allows a man the chance to make peace with God. If he misuses that knowledge, that's his problem.
As the Antiphon Responsory for Ash Wednesday says:

R. Let us correct our faults which we have committed in ignorance, let us not be taken unawares by the day of our death, looking in vain for leisure to repent.

more frequently -- I don't believe in long sentences. Life in prison is absolutely cruel and unusual punishment in my opinion; I'd rather be executed than spend life in prison. I think the max prison sentence should be 10 years. I also disbelieve in punishing felons after release by taking away rights and essentially branding them for life.
