    Default BM-59 mains.

This my not be the correct section, but are magazines for the BM-59 proprietary ? Or will M-14 / M1A magazines function property without modification ?

    Thanks, dang it !

My brother had a BM-59 back in the late 80's and Classic firearms has shipment of them. I really liked shooting the BM, and thought about getting one.

I've always wanted one, too. If you want something a lot like a BM-59, but without the proprietary mag issue, there's an outfit called Shuff's that does work on Garands. You can get a Garand modified to a shorty, a mag fed using M14 mags, one with the tri-comp from the front of a BM59, all sorts of things. Some would say you could just get an M1A and be done with it, but I have a Garand receiver I've been sitting on as well as a ton of M-14 mags for my M1As, so I'm thinking about getting one built just because it's different.

I just bought one of the James River Armory BM-59's for myself. I have to say I am extremely impressed with the quality of the build. Will be most likely be trying it out tomorrow. A very nice addition to my Garand/ M14 collection!

Sarco had mags on sale for $35 for quit awhile, but I see they're back up there. About a year or so ago they had a deal where you could get a Beretta kit and an Argentine kit for about $750, and they threw in a new in wrap Beretta M1 stock. The stock I got was beautiful, and the kits were very nice. Building a BM59 is a spendy undertaking, but I'm happy with the results. I had Shuff's do the machining on Beretta and H&R receivers, Nice work, but like I said, pricy. Beretta barrels are shorter than the Argy ones, but an Argy or M1 barrel can be modified by Shuff's to work. Since I was going through all the trouble, I opted to buy two brand new barrels through Tim and had him modify one of them for the Beretta and install and headspace both to my receivers.

You can buy a BM59 for less than what I have in mine, but it they were fun builds with brand new barrels and I know exactly what went into them.

Sarco's BM59 World parts selection has dwindled considerably in the last several months, and it will dry up eventually. It seems kits have come down a bit but they used to offer a couple different variations but I don't remember the details.
