My favorite TSA story is relevant here: Not long after 9/11 my (not yet at the time) wife and I flew to Colorado for our very first visit. I was walking down Pearl Street mall in Boulder and tucked my hands deep into my pockets of my jacket. I felt something odd and pulled out a round of 9mm ammo.

I had been shooting Steel Challenge back in Jersey at the time. After you finish a stage, you clear your gun, show empty and holster. This ejects the last round on the ground (unless you like to show off). I picked up the round and tucked in my pocket, and then clearly missed one when packing up after the shoot.

That jacket came on the plane with me. It had been on the belt and gone through the metal detectors.

I have been stopped for having a tripod in my carry-on. I've been forced to surrender my nail clippers I forgot to put in my checked luggage. I've had to toss water away. But a round of 9mm? Hop right on sir.
