    Default Anyone ride the bus?

So, in all of my 46 years I have never used public transportation.

I'm needing a way to get downtown that won't cost me a ton of money and someone suggested I could take an RTD bus down there.

I know there's a park and ride off of 120th just west of I-25. But once I get there how do I know which bus to get on and how do I pay? I mean do I need cash and exact change or can I use my debit card? I don't need some sort of "bus pass", do I?

    Thanks.

The best thing is to get on RTDs site and figure out your route and times.

If it's for a Rockies game, they will have special busses.

Exact change is easiest, and as roberth said, the RTD site has a lot of info.

RTD Site or their information line 303-299-6000 for routes. You'll either need exact change or as close as you can get rounded up, the buses don't give change. If you plan on riding home get a day pass, then you won't have to worry about keeping the money for bus fare. Not sure if the Thornton PNR to Downtown is local or regional, day passes respectively are $5.20 and $9.00.

A couple links for you, Ray:

    RTD Site LINK

If you do use RTD, I would suggest having someone drop you at the Park n Ride, and pick you up after, as opposed to leaving your vehicle. There have been times when there were a lot of break-ins, but those were typically night games that ran long (rain delays, extra innings, etc.). A day game may not be that risky.

Be careful with the Park-N-Ride, lots of break-ins.

I know the park and ride I am planning on using has a ton of security cameras and I do have a security system and full coverage insurance on my vehicle. Also, I don't leave anything of value in my vehicle and will likely be out of the park and ride lot before dark.

Thanks for all of the advice and I'll be checking out the RTD links and websites shortly.

That RTD stuff is still confusing but I think I have enough of it figured out to get me there. And maybe even back if I have to.

Looks like I can just go to the 120th park and ride and find a bus that says "120X" and get on with $4.50 and it should get me to Union Station.

I can travel by foot while I'm down there and when I'm ready to come home I can have my wife come and get me or just go to Union Station and look for the same bus and hop on with another $4.50 cash.

There is probably a bus I can catch at Coors Field to get back as well. I think that one will say "CR4" but it's $5.20 to take me back. I'll likely just stroll a couple of blocks to Union Station and catch the $4.50 bus since having exact change of $4.50 seems easier that trying to have $5.20. Lol.

I think that's $5.20 round-trip, for the Rockies Ride, Ray. Pay when you get on to go to the game, give them return ticket when you board to go home.

    From RTD Site:
Note: All round-trip fares will be paid when boarding the bus to the game. No fares will be collected on the return trip.
RTD passes, tickets, and transfers are not accepted on RockiesRide.

    Park-n-Rides/Locations
    Full/discount round-trip fare*
    Routes
    8th & Coffman $9.00/$4.50 CR20
    Longmont $9.00/$4.50 CR20
    Thornton $5.20/$2.60 CR4
    Wagon Road $9.00/$4.50 CR4
    * Discount fares are available for all seniors 65+, individuals with disabilities, Medicare recipients, elementary, middle and high school students ages 6-19. Children 5 years of age or younger ride free with a fare-paying adult. Active duty members of the U.S. military ride for free on all RTD services. Proof of eligibility is required for all passengers using discounted fare products.
