    Default LA=>.... CO!

    My wife and I are relocating to Lakewood, CO from Baton Rouge, LA for work in three weeks!

    We initially plan to stay with her family in Boulder, CO while getting the lay of the land.

    Does anyone here have or know of someone with a medium sized rental home in the area available in May? We're a young couple (both engineers) with no pets or children, with stable work history, credit and references. We are looking for a 6-12 month lease (possibly longer for the right location) while we establish ourselves and decide whether to buy/build/rent for the coming years.

    Also, while I have a job lined up, my wife is still looking, so if anyone knows of an opening for a Colorado School of Mines Geology/Geological Engineering Grad, we would greatly appreciate any connections.

    Can't wait to join you all in sunny Colorado!

    Welcome.

    I have no useful information for you. All I know is rent is pretty high around here right now and finding something to rent can sometimes take a little while. My son and his wife recently moved back in with us because their lease was up and their rent was going to go up $700 a month and they couldn't afford that. Hopefully they can find something else over the summer.

    Wow, $700 rent increase out of the blue? That's horrible, especially if they were reliable tenants. Down here after the big flood last year stuff like that happened when landlords of property that never saw water could sell their property for a 30% premium tried to force out tenants to flip the homes during the shortage.

    Well with the flood of people moving here landlords can that. Housing rates and rent have sky rocketed here in the past 3 to 4 years. Boulders crazy high but that town sucks anyway so I wouldn't bOther looking there at all

    Our target Area of Operation is Lakewood/Arvada/Littleton. I understand we'll need to stay out of Denver, Denver County and Boulder due to the AWB. No way am I giving up my ARs or SCAR.

    Seems like we'll be spending $1250-1600 for a decent 2-bed apartment/condo or $1800-2300 for a 3-4 bed house with garage. I just locked in a 10'x20' storage unit near Belmar that will tide us over while we figure things out, but I really want to move into a house so I can work on my Jeep.

    This is why we're waiting until we can see the places ourselves. We currently rent a 2010 construction 3 bed, 2 bath house, 2 car garage home with 1800 sqft down here near Baton Rouge, LA for $1550/month... lease is going up to $1900 in June.

    We rented a 4 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage 2008 built house in Tucson, AZ back in 2015 for $1050/month... of course, our salary potentials were a lot less there too, and my wife can't find work in Louisiana at all.

    Good luck in your search. FYI, I'd add around $1000 to the rent your paying now for the same thing depending on the area.
