My daughter is up there in Denver at CU Denver and living over at the Regency. Last night someone cut the cable lock on her bike and made off with it. Not her only means of transport but still a bummer. I'm 99% certain she'll never see it again but it is a little bit unique so I'm wondering if any of you all know of some bike shops in that area that we might send info to to keep a lookout for it. I'll also have her monitoring CL to see if it pops up there.

Anyway, bike thieves should have their hands cut off....

She should check with RTD and make sure it's not sitting in found property. Every week an entire room gets filled with abandoned bikes, a good portion of which are stolen. Also make sure she files a report with DPD with the serial #. You'd be surprised how often stolen bikes are picked up and then just go to auction because they have no way to find the owner.

I know it's too late for her but anyone else parking their bike in a public space, please use a U Lock around the wheel and frame of the bike to something secure and then use a cable lock to secure the other wheel.

Yeah, she had a u-lock but was treating it like a regular padlock. It was easy for the thief to cut the cable to get the whole bike.

You might look into the Pros Closet. They buy used bikes. They are pretty good about being selective and trying to avoid stolen property. Also, depends on what it is as they cater to higher end stuff, but you never know. If you have the s/n that will help identify the bike. If not, you may be out of luck.

Craigslist has a lot of bargain bikes, some really good. Yours might turn up there if it was stolen for resale. Or you can buy a good replacement.
