In 1995 I was in 6th grade. I took Spanish class. We watched a movie about a Mexican family and the little girl was going to have her Quinceañera. For fun, she and her friends would go to the park where a lot of Hispanics would hang out. Then they'd shout "La migra!" and run. And everyone would freak out and run away. They thought this was hilarious until she found out her parents came here via Coyotaje.

It sought to normalize the process of illegal immigration and how they're basically just Americans you have to feed and water properly, and give enough sunlight and poof! a new crop of Americans -- hand picked and brought to a town near you. However, I grew up in a farm town with a ton of migrant workers. I'd seen how "glamorous" their life was. How they'd work very hard for hardly anything (or at least, what they kept after sending it home to Mexico and getting kitsch upgrades for their trucks). The squalor they brought with them... one can take the person out of trashy Mexico... doesn't mean they'll take the trashy Mexico out of the person.

They'd take over our local basketball court and BMX track (that our older brothers had built with their own effort and money after getting approval from the Community Center to build on the adjacent land). Went from being a place the entire town's kids could hang out and play to being like something out of a Tijuana documentary. Trash.Everywhere.You.Can.See. Diapers... empty bottles... etc. Trash.

I also worked with illegals when I washed dishes in high school. Not just from Mexico, either. One and his wife were from Argentina. Hardest working folks I knew. Not sure if they lived like trash though (but that's not patented by hispanics...)

Public school has been a vector for liberal indoctrination for decades. Nothing new, unfortunately. This is why we will be homeschooling, no matter the personal cost.
I seen something like in school too! Pretty sure it was back in '96. Of course we stared shouting La Migra at one another for weeks.

Saw a somewhat-related story on Fox News: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/05/12...ump-quote.html

I would expect this kind of garbage in Commiepornia but in Colorado and North Carolina? We need to drain the swamp in the education indoctrination system.

At least the teacher ain't bangin' one of the kids, then shooting herself in front of the cops. They should just film all the class rooms and keep copy for the parents to review. I know, bit of a derailment and big brotherish. But what else could you do to bring in accountability?

Sorry for not getting back to this sooner. We had a complete power failure (lights out, dark) at the casino and it's been the crazyiest day of my life in the biz. Imagine hundreds of gamblers that can't get their money. Fun stuff. Anyway...

I didn't ask if it was the same teacher. I will this weekend. And I don't know if it's coming from the teacher he/her/shim self

Its best to get this information at the beginning of the year so that you can read the books prior to your kids reading them. When you find books that you have a problem with, contact the teacher and arrange for an alternative assignment. If you have a problem with a specific topic or you don't trust the information you are being given, contact the principal and schedule some time to sit in the class. This will have a negative impact on your kid's relationship with the teacher, but you will develop a reputation with the teachers and the administration of the school. They will handle you with the utmost of care. Ask me how I know. I'm sure I'm not the only parent who has done this. I'm extremely happy that my youngest has finished high school and graduates next week. Government schools are first and foremost government institutions. Treat them accordingly.
This is an excellent idea and will be done next year.

I'm with you here. We had a rather harsh bullying incident happen a month or so ago and I was in there like a tornado that afternoon. It wasn't fun or pretty but I made it clear that this shit will stop NOW. And this wasn't simple push and shove or calling names bullying crap that we all grew up with. Another story for another time.

With 2 weeks left in the school year, I'm not going to start any shit about this bs story. Next year, I'm doing what cstone suggested in the very beginning and cut it off at the pass.

A bit off topic but an interesting read for those who have children in government institutions: https://www.edreform.com/2013/02/wha...ela-standards/

My simplistic take on this is that teachers are focusing more of their time on reading non-fiction and taking less time putting anything read into context. Imagine reading the Gettysburg Address but not being told about the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, slavery, secession, the battle just fought around Gettysburg, or anything else leading up to or resulting from the conflict. Just something to read so that the children can answer questions on one of the standardized tests.

Much of what passes for education today should be considered malpractice.
